‘For the love of the game’ is a short film that portrays the relationship between the legendary referee Nigel Owens M.B.E. and his local community rugby club Pontyberem RFC; and the unexpected valuable role Veo’s technology plays in inspiring and sustaining a passion for the sport.
“Everybody here plays for their mates, they play for themselves, they play for their community and they play for their club…the enjoyment is something that pulls them together…” says the former World Cup Final referee, illustrating the powerful societal connections that grassroots rugby creates.
The film shows that in a culture that has such a deep love for rugby, technology is being used for analysis and development to give grassroots players the similar tools used by professionals - but also capturing magical fun moments as well.
“This film has been a passionate endeavour by the Veo Rugby Team and it gives me goosebumps to know that what we do can have such a transformative effect. It would be easy to expect that tech would be shunned when it’s the absolute opposite - it is so gratifying to see that our products are having such a positive impact on the lives of the coaches, players, and community in clubs like Pontyberem - all over the world!” says Veo Rugby’s Richard Groom.
“Rugby has always been at the forefront of technical innovation, it’s brilliant to show that our approach to developing sports technology that any team can access and use with ease is appreciated by someone as respected in the game as Nigel,” says Veo Rugby’s Sioned Ramsay.
